Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV:The world's first plug-in hybrid SUV for 2013

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) announced the new Outlander PHEV will go on sale at dealerships throughout Japan from January 24, 2013. Powered by the Plug-in Hybrid EV System powertrain derived from MMC's lineup of electric vehicles (EVs).

The world's first plug-in hybrid SUV, the Outlander PHEV represents a fusion of the EV technologies developed by MMC for models such as the i-MiEV, 4WD technologies honed in the Lancer Evolution, and SUV know-how gained from the Pajero (Montero or Shogun in some countries).

The battery can be switched to Battery Charge Mode, which allows electricity to be generated by the engine and stored when stationary or on the move (giving 80% charge in approximately 40 minutes when stationary) and Battery Save Mode, which maintains charge while driving. Stored electricity can be used in EV Drive Mode at the destination or used to power appliances.

Nissan Qashqai Concept Car

Nissan Qashqai Concept Car is a compact Crossover with an advanced electronic four-wheel drive system and is best described as an ÏUrban NomadÓ. It reflects NissanÌs belief that consumersÌ tastes are changing to echo their lifestyles which are becoming more active.

The interior of the car reflects the varied role it will have to play, with an innovative folding seat arrangement allowing bikes, outdoor activity equipment and the weekly shopping to be easily stowed. This flexibility is aided by rear doors which are hinged on the back edge, allowing a massive loading aperture thanks to the lack of a B-pillar. Despite the lack of B-pillar, the structural strength of the Qashqai is uncompromised thanks to the individual seat mounting.

The exterior design incorporates strong Nissan DNA seen in the design of the Micra, 350Z and Primera. The QashqaiÌs large wheels and exaggerated wheel-arches give the vehicle a purposeful stance, echoing the strength of a large 4x4, but with delicate design touches which endow it with a softer, less aggressive look.

Nissan Ellure

Nissan calls its Ellure concept "the sedan re-imagined," previewing what sort of design is possible for its forthcoming four-door range. This concept is at once elegant and aggressive, with styling elements that don't stray too far from what the automaker is currently putting out. Those headlamps, for example, use the same fin-like design of the taillights on the 370Z and Juke, and are a more forward-thinking version of what we currently see on the Maxima.

The Ellure is powered by a supercharged 2.5-liter inline-four and a 25-kilowatt electric motor, mated to the automaker's Xtronic CVT and a front-wheel-drive layout. Nissan says the concept uses regenerative braking and an advanced drive-by-wire electric/hydraulic steering system to ensure that the Ellure is as involving as possible for drivers out on the road.

Nissan e-NV200

Based on the Nissan NV200, Nissan introduced the Nissan e-NV200 concept all-electric van at the 2012 North American Auto Show in Detroit. The e-NV200 has a 24 kWh battery pack that is expected to have a range similar to Nissan Leaf of 73 mi (117 km).

Nissan Leaf Nismo RC

Nissan Leaf Nismo RC Front Cornering The Nissan Leaf Nismo RC might be powered by the same 107-hp electric motor that propels the consumer-oriented Leaf, but that's where the similarities end. With its purpose-built carbon-fiber body, monocoque chassis, race-tuned suspension setup, servo-less brakes, and powerless steering, the Nismo RC is a race-ready EV on steroids.

Nismo has created about a dozen Leaf RCs. Equipped with a huge Super GT-style wing and sitting ultra-close to the ground, it certainly looks the part, but does it drive the part as well? To see if the hype is real, we jumped behind the wheel of the experimental race car at Nissan's Oppama Grandrive proving ground, about one hour south of Tokyo.

Nissan Juke Nismo

The new Juke Nismo Concept will be distinguished by Nismo’s signature colors - pearl white with red highlights - and an extreme body kit that not only offers a sportier look but improves the car’s aerodynamics as well. The body kit includes revised bumpers in the front and rear, wider fenders, and sill side skirts. The grille pattern has also been changed and the tailgate spoiler has been modified with the addition of side elements to control airflow more efficiently. The concept will sit on a new set of 19-inch alloy wheels.

The interior has also been highly modified. Everything from the steering wheel, pedals, gauges, shifter knob, and door trims have been redesigned to provide greater involvement when driving. The sporty bucket seats are covered in leather and are highlighted by dials and needles illuminated in red.

The concept's hybrid drivetrain is based on a new Nissan system developed for front- and four-wheel-drive models.

The Nissan Hi-Cross Concept combines sculpted style with everyday utility. It features an advanced "one motor, two clutch" gasoline/electric hybrid system and a futuristic seven-passenger interior.

Nissan Actic

The Nissan Actic was a concept car design study by Nissan Design America in La Jolla, California, and presented at the 2004 North American International Auto Show. The vehicle itself is a crossover SUV style, with smooth, bullet-shaped bodywork that looks vaguely like a small Nissan Murano.

It was never intended for production, but instead served as an exercise to display future possible technologies and design directions for Nissan vehicles, and to gauge interest in a small, entry-level SUV. One of its most original features are sliding doors, instead of traditional hinged doors. The rear doors slide to the back of the vehicle and the front doors slide to the front of the car like elevator doors, allowing a maximum amount of entry space.

No further information on the car has been released by Nissan yet. Exterior features of the AZEAL include 19" aluminum-alloy wheels, dual exhaust pipes, side skirts and a spoiler topped off with glass roof panels like those found in the Nissan Maxima and Nissan Quest.

Nissan Bevel

The Nissan Bevel is a concept crossover SUV unveiled at the 2007 North American International Auto Show.

Carlos Tavares, Nissan Motor Co. executive president of global product planning and design, says the Bevel is a study for older men who like to keep lots of tools in their vehicle, transport things, do projects outside the house and only rarely carry passengers. The owner would be driving alone 90 percent of the time, Tavares imagines.

Nissan Forum

The Nissan Terranaut was a 4x4 concept car shown at the Geneva Motor Show in 2006. It was described by its manufacturer as being designed for scientists, geologists, archaeologists or adventurers, and would have seated three people, including an operator of a workstation.

The car houses three seats and a rotating spherical pod, which allows the driver to quickly rotate to their desired position outside. It measures 4.965m from stem to stern, and is just over two metres tall and two metres wide. The purpose of the extra room is to house a mini-laboratory for use in the field. It has enough refrigerated storage space to support the car's three operators for up to a week out in the field, and tents and sleeping bags may be stored in the door's storage compartments.
